Hello Friends, LET’S MAKE THIS BOOK A REALITY and have it ready in time for 2024 gift giving!

It’s been over a year and a half since we’ve been on this “mailboxing” journey together! I’d like to give thanks to all who’ve enthusiastically followed, participated, encouraged and supported me during this wild ride! Who would have thought this quirky idea to write a book about the curiously creative mailboxes of Bainbridge Island would have led to so many amazing things like the Kindred Spirit community mailboxes in Fort Ward Park and at the Bainbridge Historical Museum or the cover story in The Seattle Times Magazine or the segment on Evening Magazine!

With so much activity it’s no wonder people think the book must already be out! Having decided to go the self publishing route which is time consuming and expensive, it’s taken longer than anticipated. Now is the time! With your support, I can finish this book which I know will become a treasured keepsake for all who live here and all who visit our beautiful island.

The book will stand testament to the unique creativity and artistic expression that makes Bainbridge, “so Bainbridge!” The book will also call attention to the lost art of letter writing and its importance. The historical museum noted we are in a “digital dark age”, meaning that the transiency of texting, emailing and social media posting has taken over and we’re losing the tactile, meaningful and thoughtfully written correspondence that have made up recorded history.

What started out as a quirky project highlighting mailboxes and opened up meaningful conversations and themes that are worth exploring just as the mailboxes provide stories worth telling.

Please help financially support the making of this book by making a donation today. My goal is to raise 15K during this holiday fundraising event. Your donations will pay for my time to fully focus on the book during the first quarter of 2024, pay for editing, book design and finally, taking it to press! (15K is probably a conservative figure as the book includes full color photography and original mailbox illustrations) I can’t do this without your help! If you’ve enjoyed the journey so far…the stories, the images, the goodwill and community programing, please consider making a donation in any amount. Once the book is published, all donors will receive Uniquely Bainbridge swag and those who’ve donated $200 and above will received a free signed copy of the book.

Thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart and I hope you all enjoy a happy, healthy holiday!

XOXO - Denise (aka THE MAILBOX LADY)
